Biography

Johanna Gossner was born in 1996 in Kitzbühel, Austria, and received her first clarinet instruction with Christian Egger and Max Bauer at the State Conservatory of Tyrol in Innsbruck. In 2015, she transferred to the class of Alexander Neubauer at the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna. Her education has been augmented by masterclasses with prominent musicians and at summer academies in Oslo, Norway, in 2018 and 2019.

Since 2021, Johanna Gossner has also been studying with Gerald Pachinger at the University of Music in Graz and at the same time completed the orchestral program of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Andreas Sundén. She has performed regularly as a substitute with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Camerata Salzburg, Bühne Baden, Wiener Concert-Verein, Vienna Symphony and the Vienna State Opera and made appearances as a soloist and chamber musician in Japan, China, Portugal, Scandinavia and Latin America.

Johanna Gossner has won prizes at numerous national and international competitions and received the 1st Prize with the highest number of points in the category of soloist at the “Svirel International Music Competition” in Slovenia in 2018. She has won three first prizes as a chamber musician with various ensembles at the Fidelio Chamber Music Competition in Vienna and received scholarships from various institutions. In summer 2020, she was awarded the first “Ari Kummer Prize” to be given as part of the festival ClariArte of the Vienna Clarinet Connection. This was followed by prizes at the “International Franz Cibulka Competition” in Graz, “Musica Juventutis” in Vienna, the “European Chamber Music Competition” in Turin und the “North Competition” in Stockholm. In 2023 she was named as the Richard Wagner Upcoming Artist and, with her successful Duo Minerva, is a sponsorship award winner of the well-known Klub Klassik - Vienna Music Society.
